The Glass
Muller is used for grinding pigment and dispersing the pigment into an oil
or water base.
It is used on an even grinding surface such as glass or marble. The base of
the Muller is ground perfectly flat and has a fine tooth surface that is
ideal for grinding pigment. The Muller is designed to mix paint pigments
thoroughly with whatever base the artist chooses to use.
Art Boards™
Glass Mullers are made in four sizes.
Smallest Muller has a 1" base -
Is used for small quantity mixing pigments and stains into varnishes,
shellacs, oils or water. It is a favorite of those making musical
instruments such as violin makers. (Smallest Muller is not yet pictured in
the photo above)
Small Muller has a 2" base -
Is ideal for mixing tempera
paints as well as all others.
Medium Muller has a 3" base -
Is used for mixing
any pigment or stain in a larger quantity.
Large Muller has a 4" base -
Is used for easy mixing oil and pigments as well as other paint mediums.
Art Boards™
Muller's
are used for mixing and grinding all kinds of pigments by hand in fresco,
aqueous media and in oils or solvents for latter use. The Muller size and
weight chosen is a matter of personal preference and may have to do with the
quantity of pigment that is being ground.
Each Muller is individually made by hand and
meant to last a lifetime.
